The Indian Association Geneva (IAG) takes great pleasure in inviting you, your family and friends to “Sitar Evening with Ustad Ikhlaq Hussain Khan ” at restaurant “Jardins de Malyar”, Saint Genis Pouilly, France on Saturday 11 December 2021 starting 19:00 hrs.
Ustad Ikhlaq Hussain Khan is a sitar virtuoso from a centuries-long line of influential musicians of the Delhi Gharana school, dating back to the early 13th century and including his father and teacher, the late Ustad Imdad Hussain. He also studied with the legendary sitar master Pandit Ravi Shankar in Delhi, India. Hussain plays in the Gayaki Ang style, reproducing the nuance of the human voice, perhaps the most difficult form of playing the sitar.
He was an Artist in Residence at Shangri La, Hawai’i (DDFIA) in 2014. In 2015 Hussain performed at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and in 2016, at the Storm King Art Center as part of the Masters of Indian Music series presented by the World Music Institute. He had three sold out shows at the Rubin Museum of Art in the past three years. Ikhlaq was invited to pay tribute to his Guruji Pandit Ravi Shankar and performed at the Maverick Concert Hall in August 2019 with Steve Gorn and Samir Chatterjee.
